Visa Requirements for Indian Passport Holders with UAE Residency
Your Emirates ID matters less than you think. An Indian passport with UAE residency draws on three separate documents, and for several destinations the one that decides entry was issued in Brussels or Washington rather than Dubai.
Most guides written for Indian UAE residents work with two documents only, namely your passport and your residence permit. For an Indian passport with UAE residency that framing misses the document that decides some of the hardest cases, and it overstates what the Emirates ID does on its own.
What visa access do Indian UAE residents actually have?
Less than agency listicles claim, and in a narrower band than most residents expect. First, an Indian passport already reaches a wide set of destinations on nationality alone. Then UAE residency adds a short, specific list, with Georgia and the Gulf resident channels chief among it. A third document, a Schengen, United States, United Kingdom or Ireland visa or residence permit, unlocks destinations that an Emirates ID cannot reach at all, and Türkiye is the clearest case.
Getting that hierarchy right saves Indian UAE residents real money. Residents book on the assumption that the Emirates ID is doing the work, then meet a rule that never read the permit in the first place. Others, by contrast, hold a Schengen visa in the same drawer without realising it outranks the permit beside it.

Where the figures come from
Every rule below names the source it came from and carries a confidence grade in its own section. Where two sources disagree, both readings appear. Figures we could not verify against a current source on the date above were removed rather than softened, and the editorial record at the end lists each removal.
What actually changed, and what only looked like a change
Quick answer: the Türkiye condition is real and well documented, but the story that it changed in March 2026 is not, and that distinction matters for how you plan.
An earlier version of this guide led on a dated event: that from 1 March 2026 Türkiye tightened its electronic visa condition for Indian nationals applying from the Emirates, and that a UAE residence visa had been accepted until then. The condition itself checks out. The dated change does not.
| Claim | Status on checking |
|---|---|
| Türkiye's online route requires a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland document | Corroborated. Documented as a conditional single-entry e-visa for holders of such a visa or permit |
| A UAE residence permit qualifies for that route | Not supported. No Gulf permit sits on the list of qualifying documents |
| The condition was introduced on 1 March 2026 | Not verified. No official source located for that date or for the earlier position |
| Georgia grants visa-free entry on a GCC permit | Confirmed for Indian nationals, at 90 days in any 180-day period |
| Georgia requires travel medical insurance | Confirmed from 1 January 2026, at no less than 30,000 GEL for the full stay |
| Sri Lanka waived its authorisation fee for India | Confirmed as a fee waiver. The authorisation itself is still mandatory |
Why the difference is practical, not pedantic
If the condition is a recent tightening, the sensible reading is that it might loosen again, and that a permit which worked last year may work next year. If it is simply how the route has been structured, then no amount of waiting helps and the only path is to obtain a qualifying document or use the consulate. The second reading is the one the sources support, so plan on that basis.
Three documents, ranked by what they actually open
Quick answer: the passport carries the most destinations, a Western visa decides the hardest ones, and the Emirates ID sits between them on a narrower list than its reputation suggests.
First, the Indian passport
This does the heavy lifting. A broad set of destinations opens on nationality alone, specifically across much of Southeast Asia, parts of Africa, the Caribbean and several Indian Ocean islands. Living in Dubai changes none of it, in either direction.
Second, a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland document
Placing this above the residence permit will surprise some readers, yet the sources support it. Türkiye's online route, for example, reads exactly these documents and not a Gulf permit. Georgia accepts them alongside a GCC permit, so a Western visa covers that route as well. So that is one document covering two destinations, and it keeps working for years after the trip that earned it.
Third, UAE residency itself
The contribution here is real but narrow. Georgia accepts a GCC permit for visa-free entry, while the five Gulf neighbours each run a resident channel. Beyond that, the list thins quickly, and several destinations commonly credited to residency were already open on the passport.
The question to ask first
Before assuming any document helps, ask which one the destination reads. Nationality opens one list, a Western visa opens a second, and Gulf residency opens a third. They overlap far less than people expect, yet the overlap is exactly where wrong assumptions form.
What the Indian passport does on its own
Quick answer: enough that residency is topping up a decent baseline rather than rescuing a weak one, which changes how much your permit is worth to you.
The Indian passport is the strongest of the South Asian passports by a clear margin, and that single fact reshapes this whole topic. Since a resident whose nationality already reaches a wide set of countries gains proportionally less from a Gulf permit, the same permit means far more to a neighbour whose passport reaches fewer.
Why no destination count appears here
An earlier version of this guide put the figure at roughly 55, with rankings between 75th and 81st. For example, readings published within weeks of each other during 2026 placed the Indian passport at four different ranks, with destination counts moving alongside them. We could not reproduce any single figure against the index itself, so the numbers came out.
Method explains much of the spread. An electronic travel authorisation counts toward these scores while a pre-departure electronic visa does not, so two outlets summarising the same edition can differ by several destinations. Compilers also classify borderline cases differently, while readings update through the year.
A ranking is not an entitlement
Published counts describe access in principle. They ignore onward-ticket rules, funds checks, insurance mandates and officer discretion, and say nothing at all about your residence permit or your Schengen visa. For the destinations your nationality does cover, our visa-free countries for Indian passport holders list is maintained against destination rules rather than an index score.
Why the baseline still deserves your attention
Residency ends. Should your employment finish, the residence visa is cancelled and every residency-driven destination closes with it, since each wants a valid permit on the day of entry. What remains is the passport list, and for an Indian national that remainder is substantial rather than alarming. So knowing it in advance turns a redundancy into an inconvenience.
What UAE residency genuinely adds
Quick answer: Georgia and the Gulf resident channels, and rather less beyond them than commercial listings suggest.
Genuinely residency-driven
Georgia sits at the top, and it remains the cleanest case of the set. Indian nationals holding a valid visa or residence permit from a listed country, the GCC states among them, may enter without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. No application, no fee. Since 1 January 2026 the separate insurance rule applies, which the Georgia section below covers.
The five Gulf neighbours each operate a dedicated resident channel, covered further down. Saudi Arabia, in particular, looks the most open of them on published terms.
Where residency is wrongly credited
Commercial visa sites routinely list Thailand, the Maldives, Indonesia, Cambodia, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritius and the Seychelles as benefits of UAE residency for Indian passport holders. Yet most of those already admit Indian nationals on the passport alone, whether visa-free, on arrival, or through an electronic authorisation.
Azerbaijan belongs in this group too, at least partly. A GCC permit does open a 30-day visa on arrival there, yet Indian nationals also have their own route: a 30-day e-visa reported at USD 30 payable on arrival at international airports. So the permit smooths the process rather than creating the access.
The distinction is not academic. Believing the Emirates ID is doing the work causes needless alarm when a permit lapses, and it hides which destinations genuinely depend on that permit staying valid.
Two details we removed
An earlier version said Azerbaijan issues its arrival visa at a self-service kiosk positioned before passport control, and that the permit should carry more than six months of remaining validity. Since neither appears in the sources we could reach, both came out. A kiosk may well describe one terminal's layout, while a validity threshold nobody publishes is not one you can plan against.
What residency requires when it does apply
- The physical Emirates ID, since counter staff routinely refuse a scan or phone photograph
- Real validity remaining on the residence visa, since each destination sets its own rule
- Passport validity beyond your entry date, commonly six months at least
- Confirmed return or onward travel
Visa routes for Indian UAE residents, compared
Quick answer: read the third column. Where it says no, your Emirates ID is not what gets you in, so planning around it wastes effort.
| Destination | On the Indian passport alone | Does UAE residency help? | The condition that matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Georgia | Electronic visa route available | Yes. Visa-free 90 days in any 180 | Insurance of at least 30,000 GEL since January 2026 |
| Azerbaijan | 30-day e-visa, reported at USD 30 on arrival | Partly. A GCC permit opens a 30-day arrival visa | Valid permit and passport presented together |
| Saudi Arabia | Separate application route | Yes. E-visa for GCC residents, any profession | Permit three months, passport six months |
| Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait | Separate application routes | Yes. Each runs a resident channel | Terms unverified here. Confirm with each state |
| Sri Lanka | Yes. Authorisation fee waived for India | No. Nationality decides it | The authorisation is still mandatory before departure |
| Maldives, Thailand, Indonesia | Yes, on nationality terms | No. Residency adds nothing | Confirm the current mechanism per country |
| Türkiye, online route | Conditional e-visa only | No. A GCC permit does not qualify | Needs a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or permit |
Read the last three rows together
They carry the article's point. Residency helps in Georgia and across the Gulf, yet contributes nothing through South and Southeast Asia, and does not reach Türkiye's online route at all. An Emirates ID is a useful document, yet it is not a travel document in the way many residents treat it.
The third document, and why it outranks your permit
Quick answer: a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit opens Türkiye's online route and Georgia alike, so that it so it covers more ground than the Emirates ID for an Indian passport holder.
Increasingly, immigration systems use a third-country visa as a proxy for vetting. The logic mirrors the residency substitution described earlier, except the credential comes from Brussels, Washington, London or Dublin rather than Dubai. So where a government applies that logic, a Gulf permit carries no equivalent weight.
Türkiye, the worked example
Türkiye's electronic visa for Indian nationals appears as a conditional single-entry e-visa, issued for 30 days to holders of a valid visa or residence permit from one of the Schengen member countries, the United States, the United Kingdom or Ireland. Neither a UAE nor any other GCC permit, however, sits on that qualifying list. Applicants without one of the four are directed to a sticker visa through the Turkish consulate instead.
We grade the condition as corroborated rather than official, because we could not read it on the Turkish portal directly on the verification date. The eligibility detail by passport sits in our Türkiye e-visa guide for GCC residents, and the portal itself is the last word before you book.
Georgia, the example that doubles the value
Here the third document earns its keep twice over. Specifically, Indian nationals holding a valid visa or residence permit from the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, South Korea, Ireland, a Schengen country or a GCC state may enter visa-free for 90 days in any 180-day period. Since a Western visa and a Gulf permit both work here, the Western visa covers Georgia and Türkiye while the permit covers only Georgia.
That insurance rule then applies to everyone, whichever document got you in. Since 1 January 2026, all tourists entering Georgia must hold valid health and accident insurance under the Law of Georgia on Tourism, at no less than 30,000 GEL, covering the full period of stay including the arrival and departure dates. Our travel insurance guide covers reading a policy against a requirement stated that way, and the country detail sits in our Georgia visa rules for GCC residents.
How this changes the way you plan
So a multi-year United States visitor visa, or a multi-entry Schengen, delivers value well beyond the country that issued it. Residents often treat such an application as a one-off chore for a single holiday, and that is the misreading. Read properly, it is an investment in years of easier regional travel, and for an Indian passport holder in the Emirates it is the single most useful document to go after.
Take stock of your three documents
First, list your passport, your residence permit and any Western visa, with the expiry date beside each. That inventory answers most of your travel questions before you ask them.
Open the travel checklistTravelling inside the Gulf
Quick answer: regional travel is where UAE residency delivers its most dependable value, and Saudi Arabia in particular asks least of you.
Saudi Arabia, the most open on published terms
Since March 2023, all GCC residents have been eligible for a single-entry or multiple-entry Saudi e-visa for tourism or to perform Umrah, regardless of profession. The residence permit needs at least three months of validity and the passport at least six. This comes from immigration-practice briefings rather than a government page we read directly, so it sits at high rather than very high in the confidence table.
An earlier version added a two-blank-pages requirement. Since that detail appears nowhere in the source, it came out.
Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait
Each of the four runs a resident channel, while Qatar's Hayya platform and Bahrain's passports authority serve as the usual routes. Because we did not verify their published conditions on the date above, this guide states no durations, validity thresholds or occupation rules for them. Occupation conditions are widely reported on the Omani and Kuwaiti routes, which fits how the Emirates operates its own resident visa, but reported is not the same as read.
Entering the Emirates on another Gulf permit
Worth knowing if family visit you from elsewhere in the Gulf. Dubai's residency authority publishes an entry visa for residents of the GCC member states, and its stated conditions include, first, a passport valid not less than six months and a profession falling within the list approved for issuing the visa, subject to assessment by the competent authority. Specifically, the published total fee is AED 252.5, with expected completion of 48 hours. The broader picture across the five nationalities sits in our visa-on-arrival guide for GCC residents with South Asian passports.
For passing through rather than entering, our comparison of transit visa rules at the Gulf hubs sets Dubai, Doha, Istanbul and Abu Dhabi side by side.
How reliable each rule is
Quick answer: the Georgia rules rest on government sources, the Türkiye condition on corroborated documentation, and anything graded moderate or lower needs your own confirmation before you book.
The source hierarchy in use
Government portals and embassies rank highest, then official airlines and airports, then professional immigration briefings, then industry indices, then reputable news, then commercial visa agencies. Where sources conflict, the higher tier prevails and this guide states the disagreement rather than resolving it quietly.
| Claim | Source type | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Georgia grants 90 days in any 180 on a GCC or Western document | Georgian embassy and published visa policy | Very high |
| Georgia requires 30,000 GEL insurance from 1 January 2026 | Embassy notice citing the Law of Georgia on Tourism | Very high |
| Emirates entry visa terms and the AED 252.5 fee | Dubai residency authority service page | Very high |
| Türkiye's online route needs a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland document | Documented visa-requirement reference | High. Confirm on the portal before booking |
| Saudi e-visa open to all professions, permit three months | Immigration-practice briefing | High |
| Azerbaijan 30-day e-visa at USD 30 on arrival | Visa-requirement reference, same source as above | Moderate. Confirm with the airline before flying |
| Sri Lanka fee waiver covers India | Practice briefing and a policy tracker, dates disagreeing | Moderate |
| Türkiye's condition was introduced on 1 March 2026 | None located | Not verified. Not relied on here |
| Occupation conditions on the Omani and Kuwaiti routes | Reported, no primary source reached | Limited. Verify personally |
The claim this guide deliberately does not make
Several outlets describe the Türkiye condition as a March 2026 tightening that replaced an earlier position accepting UAE residency. Yet we found the condition documented and the dated change undocumented. Since the practical advice is identical either way, get a qualifying document or use the consulate, this guide states the condition and leaves the history alone.
What Indian UAE residents get wrong
Quick answer: the two costliest beliefs are that the Emirates ID covers Türkiye, and that it is what opens Thailand. Neither holds.
| The belief | What the sources show |
|---|---|
| My Emirates ID gets me into Türkiye | Not on the online route. It reads a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or permit, and a GCC permit is not among them |
| UAE residency opens Thailand and Indonesia for me | Those admit Indian nationals on the passport. Agency lists credit them to residency, which misleads residents whose permit is ending |
| A Western visa only matters for the country that issued it | Georgia accepts documents from eleven listed origins, and Türkiye's online route accepts four. One visa, several destinations |
| Georgia is simply visa-free for Gulf residents | Entry is, and the insurance rule is separate. Since January 2026 the policy must cover the full stay at no less than 30,000 GEL |
| Saudi Arabia restricts entry by profession | That restriction was lifted for GCC residents in March 2023. The Emirates still applies an approved-profession condition to its own resident visa |
| A photo of my Emirates ID is enough | Counter staff want the physical card, and airlines check before boarding rather than after |
| Passport rankings describe my position | They measure nationality alone and ignore both Gulf residency and third-country visas, and 2026 readings of the same index disagreed materially |
| An approved visa guarantees entry | Approval authorises travel while admission stays an officer's decision. Funds, onward tickets and accommodation are still assessed |
Costs and quiet extras
Quick answer: the expensive surprise is rarely a visa fee, but rather the shift from an online route onto a consulate one.
Routes that carry no fee
Georgia charges nothing where your permit or Western visa qualifies you, since there is no application to pay for. Sri Lanka's authorisation fee was waived for a list of nationalities including India, though the authorisation itself stays compulsory.
What to budget for instead
- Travel medical insurance, compulsory for Georgia at no less than 30,000 GEL and sensible everywhere else
- Confirmed accommodation and return tickets, because both ends of the journey get checked
- Evidence of funds, since some Gulf resident routes ask for it
- Government fees where they apply, then revised without much notice
The two costs residents underestimate
For instance, a consulate sticker visa costs substantially more than an online application, in fees and in time away from work. So anyone pushed off the electronic route for Türkiye absorbs that difference straight away, and that is the real cost of the condition described above.
The second is a residency amendment where a recorded occupation blocks a Gulf application. Fees apply and a fresh medical is sometimes required, turning an administrative correction into a genuine expense.
Where the savings sit
- Pursue a multi-entry Western visa once, then reuse it across years of regional travel
- Apply for a multiple-entry Saudi e-visa and use it across its full validity
- Favour destinations your passport already covers, since they carry no permit dependency
- Buy annual insurance rather than per-trip cover if you travel more than twice a year
Why most fee figures stay out
Authorities revise charges without announcement, so publishing amounts would mislead anyone budgeting months ahead. This guide states one fee, the figure on a government service page, and even that needs rechecking on the day.
Checking your own eligibility
Quick answer: test the documents in this order, because starting from the destination is what sends residents to the wrong guide.
- Establish which document the destination reads. Nationality, a Western visa, or Gulf residency. That answer determines everything after it.
- Check whether your passport already covers it. Where it does, permit validity stops mattering for that trip entirely.
- Check your third-country visas next, not last. A valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland document may be the deciding factor, and Türkiye is the case in point.
- Note your residence visa expiry. Georgia wants validity on both the entry and departure dates, and the Saudi route states three months.
- Read the occupation recorded on your residency. Several Gulf routes read it, whatever your actual role.
- Confirm passport validity. Six months beyond entry is the common standard.
- Apply on the official government portal rather than through an agency, and keep the confirmation.
- Arrange insurance where mandatory, checking the sum insured against the stated minimum and the dates against your full stay.
- Keep bookings refundable until an approval arrives in writing.
When to do each step
These are planning buffers rather than published processing guarantees. Slack costs nothing, whereas finding out at check-in costs a great deal.
- Eight weeks out. Work out which of your three documents the destination actually reads.
- Six weeks out. Start a consulate application if the online route is closed to you, since consulates run slower than portals.
- Four weeks out. Confirm passport validity and recheck the official portal, since conditions move.
- Three weeks out. Submit any electronic application, keeping flights refundable until approval.
- Two weeks out. Buy insurance meeting the stated minimum and save the certificate offline.
- One week out. Print approvals, tickets and accommodation confirmations.
- Departure day. Carry the physical Emirates ID and passport, never a photograph alone.
Choosing a destination as an Indian UAE resident
Quick answer: Sri Lanka for simplicity, Georgia for a long stay, Saudi Arabia for repeat regional travel, and Türkiye only with a qualifying document in hand.
The gradings below reflect editorial judgment on the rules already covered, not any scoring system. Fee amounts stay out apart from the one government-published figure.
| Destination | Which document decides | Difficulty | Stay permitted | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sri Lanka | Passport | Straightforward | Standard tourist terms | Families and short-notice trips |
| Maldives | Passport | Straightforward | Standard tourist terms | Beach breaks with no prior paperwork |
| Georgia | Permit or a Western visa | Straightforward, with conditions | 90 days in any 180 | Longer stays and remote work |
| Azerbaijan | Passport, with the permit smoothing it | Straightforward | 30 days | Short breaks close to home |
| Saudi Arabia | Permit | Straightforward | Single or multiple entry | Umrah, family visits, repeat travel |
| Türkiye, online route | A Western visa or permit | Closed without one | 30 days, single entry | Holders of Schengen, US, UK or Ireland documents |
| Türkiye, consulate route | Assessed on application | Slower and dearer | As issued | Residents without a qualifying document |
Four traveller scenarios
Quick answer: the same Emirates ID produces different answers depending on which other documents sit beside it.
A software engineer in Dubai planning a summer break
Georgia works on her residence permit alone, with no application and up to 90 days. Insurance meeting the 30,000 GEL minimum is the one thing to arrange first, and it must cover her departure date rather than stopping at the last night. Azerbaijan is the simpler alternative for a shorter trip, and her passport gives her a route there independent of the permit.
A family in Sharjah who assumed Türkiye was straightforward
This is the case the article exists for. Where nobody in the family holds a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or permit, the online route is not available to them and a consulate application is the path. Checking early matters, since consulate processing runs slower than most households allow, and a booked flight does not accelerate it.
A nurse in Abu Dhabi visiting relatives in Colombo
Her Indian passport handles this by itself. Sri Lanka's authorisation fee was waived for India, so the cost falls away while the authorisation stays mandatory before departure. Her Emirates ID plays no part beyond re-entry to the Emirates afterwards, which matters if her permit nears renewal.
A project manager weighing a United States visa application
Read as a holiday document, the effort looks disproportionate. Read as a mobility asset, the calculation changes. A multi-year US visa opens Türkiye's online route and satisfies Georgia's document list, so it keeps returning value long after the original trip. For an Indian passport holder in the Emirates it is the strongest single document to pursue.
What catches people out
Quick answer: boarding rather than arrival is where residents get stopped, and an airline will not accept your reading of a rule over its own.
- An eligibility condition read as a recent change, when it simply describes how the route works, so waiting for it to revert achieves nothing.
- Physical card checks, since counter staff decline scans and phone photographs.
- Insurance checks in Georgia, where a sum insured below the stated minimum does not satisfy the rule.
- Occupation queries on Gulf resident routes, where an officer compares your recorded title against a list.
- Passport validity and blank pages, catching travellers whose passports are near renewal.
- Airline interpretation of the phrase residence permit, sometimes stricter than a government's own wording.
Boarding, not arrival, decides it
Airlines absorb the cost when a border turns a passenger back, so check-in staff apply rules strictly and often conservatively. Check-in staff at Dubai International stop more residents than arrival counters abroad turn back, and a non-refundable ticket wins no argument at that desk.
The visa checklist for Indian UAE residents
- Establish which of your three documents the destination actually reads
- Check whether your passport already covers the trip without the permit
- Confirm whether you hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or permit
- Note your residence visa expiry against both your entry and departure dates
- Read the occupation recorded on your residency extract
- Verify passport validity of at least six months and count blank pages
- Check the official government portal on the day you apply
- Buy insurance that meets the stated minimum and covers the full stay
- Pack the physical Emirates ID, never a photograph of it
- Keep bookings refundable until approval arrives in writing
Frequently asked questions
Türkiye and the third document
Does my UAE residence visa work for the Turkish e-visa?
Not on the online route. Türkiye's electronic visa for Indian nationals is documented as a conditional single-entry e-visa for 30 days, issued to holders of a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen member country, the United States, the United Kingdom or Ireland. UAE and GCC permits do not appear among the qualifying documents. Without one, the consulate sticker visa becomes the route. Confirm on the official portal before booking, since we could not read the condition there directly.
Did Türkiye change this rule in March 2026?
Several outlets describe it that way, and we could not verify the date or the earlier position from any official source. Documentation supports the condition itself. Since the practical advice is the same either way, this guide states the condition and does not rely on the history. Do not plan on the assumption that Türkiye will accept a UAE permit again.
Which Western visa is most useful to hold?
Any of the four named for Türkiye works for that route. For breadth, a multi-entry Schengen or a multi-year United States visa is the strongest, since Georgia's document list also accepts both. A single document covering Türkiye and Georgia is doing more work than an Emirates ID, which covers only Georgia of the two.
Is a Western visa worth pursuing just for travel?
For a resident who travels regionally more than twice a year, the arithmetic usually favours it, because the document keeps working for years after the trip that earned it. Applications take time and consulates do refuse them, so this is not a solution for travel weeks away. Applying from the Emirates is generally sensible, since your employment and tenancy evidence is strongest there.
What residency does and does not cover
Which destinations genuinely depend on UAE residency?
Georgia stands out most clearly, alongside the resident channels run by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait. Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives admit Indian nationals on the passport itself, so residency adds nothing there despite what many agency lists suggest. Azerbaijan sits in between, since a GCC permit opens an arrival visa while your passport also has its own route.
How long can I stay in Georgia on my Emirates ID?
Up to 90 calendar days within any 180-day period, with no application and no fee, on a valid visa or residence permit from a listed country including the GCC states. The permit must be valid on the day of entry and the day of departure, so a permit expiring mid-trip fails the second test even where it passed the first.
What insurance does Georgia require?
Since 1 January 2026, all tourists entering Georgia must hold valid health and accident insurance under the Law of Georgia on Tourism. The sum insured must be no less than 30,000 GEL, and the policy has to run across your whole stay including the arrival and departure dates. Diplomatic visa holders, accredited staff of international organisations and international drivers fall outside the requirement.
Do I need to carry my physical Emirates ID abroad?
Yes, wherever your route depends on residency. Arrival counters want the physical card rather than a scan or photograph, and airlines check documents again before boarding. The original also matters when you return to the Emirates, so leave it at home at your peril.
What happens if my residency is cancelled?
Every route that reads the permit closes, since each wants a valid permit on the day of entry. What remains is your passport baseline, substantial for an Indian national, plus anything a Western visa opens. If a permit-based trip matters to you, take it while the permit still runs rather than after a contract ends.
The Gulf and the Emirates
Is the Saudi e-visa open to me whatever my job title?
On the terms reported, yes. Since March 2023 all GCC residents have been eligible for a single-entry or multiple-entry e-visa for tourism or Umrah regardless of profession, with the residence permit valid at least three months and the passport at least six. This rests on immigration-practice briefings rather than a government page we read, so it carries a high rather than a very high grade.
Why does a recorded job title matter for some Gulf routes?
Because the authority reads it rather than your duties. The Emirates states it plainly for its own resident visa: the profession must fall within the list approved for issuing the visa, subject to assessment by the competent authority. Reporting widely describes occupation conditions on the Omani and Kuwaiti routes as well, though we reached no primary source for those.
What does the Emirates charge a GCC resident for an entry visa?
The service page publishes AED 252.5 in total, with expected completion of 48 hours. Relevant if relatives on another Gulf permit plan to visit you, rather than to your own travel. A refusal does not return the fee, so the recorded profession is worth checking first.
Planning and paperwork
How many countries can an Indian passport reach without a prior visa?
This guide publishes no figure, and the omission is deliberate. Readings during 2026 placed the Indian passport at four different ranks with destination counts moving alongside them, and we could not reproduce a single number against the index. Ordering is stable where the exact count is not, so check the destinations that matter to you rather than a total.
Is Sri Lanka free for Indian passport holders now?
Sri Lanka dropped the fee for a list of nationalities including India, so the charge falls away. The authorisation itself remains mandatory and you still obtain it before departure. Sources disagree on the effective date, one giving 25 May 2026 and another recording no announced implementation date, so both appear here rather than one quietly winning.
Can I rely on an airline's visa listing?
It is useful and it is not the last word. Airlines absorb the cost when a border turns a passenger back, so their guidance runs careful and sometimes stricter than a government's own wording. Where the two differ, the government source governs your entry while the airline still governs whether you board.
Does an approved visa guarantee I will be let in?
No. An approval authorises travel while admission stays the decision of the officer at the border. Officers still assess funds, onward tickets and accommodation details on arrival, since a valid document does not remove that discretion. Carry the supporting paperwork rather than only the approval.
Check the document, then book
Indian UAE residents should work out which of the three documents their destination reads, confirm it with that country's own authority, then compare what the trip costs from any UAE airport.
